Dear Webby
Christmas Decorations

Dear Webby,

Christmas is almost here and my husband refuses to put up the decorations.

He is retired and does very little around the house. I asked him to do the outside decorations back in October when the weather was good. My children will be coming for Christmas and they and I love the decorations.

He is spoiling my holidays. The neighbors always say our house is decorated the best. Not this year!

Living in a dull house.

Dear Dull House,

Decorations do not make Christmas. Nor is it shopping, cards, baking etc. It's the spirit! Webby do you hear yourself?

Really though, could your husband not be feeling well? Has he developed a fear of the ladders and height? Is he depressed? There could be many reasons for his disinterest.

Don't let this spoil your holidays. You can put a wreath on the door. Candles in the windows (Webby personally loves them) or a prelit decoration on your walkway. I'm sure you can think of many ways to brighten up your home. Many things are on sale now because most people have already bought their decorations.

Then Webby would concentrate on indoor decorations that you can do without help. Your mantle; your inside entrance; tables - some people even cover their pictures with wrapping paper to make them look like gifts. Webby did this when her dog was a puppy when everything had to be up high.

You can buy snowflakes that stick to your windows and show up outside. I am sure you will come up with many ideas of your own. Keep some of the old and add something new. Tradition is great. Change is healthy. Put them together and you get the best of both worlds.

If your children live near you perhaps they can help you decorate if you tell them Dad is not up to it this year. Don't worry about what the neighbors think.

Webby has a feeling as your husband sees the hustle and bustle he will be caught up in it if not physically, at least mentally.

Remember the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, your family and all of Webby's readers.
