Awareness Training

The Safety and Crime Awareness Training (SCAT) program is a national award-winning program of the Cuyahoga County Department of Senior and Adult Services (DSAS), in cooperation with law enforcement officers, banking officials and experts of the aging network.

The goal of SCAT is to alert seniors and vulnerable adults to the risks of telemarketing scams, predatory lending practices, personal assaults, and a multitude of other kinds of financial scams and criminal activity targeting the elderly.

This program provides practical information helpful in keeping the seniors of Cuyahoga County safe and assists them in learning how not to become a victim of crime at home and in their community. Other benefits include, improved quality of life, a forum for law enforcement and the community to share their concerns, and expanded knowledge of crime prevention programs and victim assistance services.
